Nutrition Company Hopes To Power Guiseley AFC to Emirates FA Cup Glory!

A sports nutrition company founded during the Covid lockdowns has partnered with Guiseley AFC to provide protein products and energy supplements to the club’s players.

Brown Bag Protein based in Skipton was founded by endurance athlete and world record holder Sam Boatwright and his brother after they realised just how much plastic was used and wasted by other suppliers. The company state they are the world’s first zero waste sports nutrition company due to being 100% carbon neutral with sustainably sourced products that enable athletes to achieve their performance goals.

Mr Boatwright holds a number of endurance records himself, so knows a thing or two about elite level sports performance and says Brown Bag Protein’s products are already being well received by sports performers.

“I have been a personal trainer and athlete for many years and know intimately what people need to train and perform at their optimum levels. I’ve tried every product on the market and ours are just as good and even tastier. From protein shakes to vitamin tablets and flap jack bars, all our products have been carefully selected by Yorkshire suppliers and tested by athletes that I train personally. We hope that the Guiseley players will benefit from their use for the long season ahead.”

In recent weeks the start up business has attracted new investment, notably from former Welcome to Yorkshire Chief Executive & Bradford City Chief Operating Officer James Mason who believes Brown Bag’s products will offer a new and attractive dimension to sports clubs.

“Supplements and protein products have been used for many years by athletes and sports clubs but Sam’s products are unique because of their environmental conscience. Everything is sustainably sourced and the packaging is all recyclable. This gives the products a competitive advantage but so does Sam himself. I along with another investor believe in Sam as he understands sports endurance and performance better than anyone else. Sam has proved he doesn’t quit and we believe in his business. For a man who has run across America and cycled further than anyone else in the world for a 24 hour period, if the products are good enough for him, they are good enough for anyone!”

The Brown Bag Protein logo will be displayed on the back of Guiseley AFC’s shirts for this Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup tie at AFC Wimbledon as part of a season long partnership. James Pickles from Guiseley AFC said “We are proud to be partnering with a local company who have come a long way in such a short space of time. Brown Bag Protein’s goals in zero waste and self-sustainability are aligned with our own and we look forward to working towards our targets together. This partnership has come at an ideal time for the club, with AFC Wimbledon at the weekend and a congested fixture schedule coming up, we hope that their products can give us the extra edge when it matters. We may even be calling on Sam to help with our endurance training before the season is done!”
