Boyes looks forward to FA Cup draw

Having helped the Lions progress to the next round of the FA Cup on Saturday, striker Adam Boyes is eagerly awaiting the draw for the fourth and final qualifying stage of the competition.

Despite being frustrated in front of goal, Boyes helped see off a spirited Halesowen side at Nethermoor on Saturday as Gavin Rothery, Nicky Boshell and Wayne Brooksby got the goals to send Guiseley through.

Boyes was named September’s Vanarama Conference North Player of the Month after a prolific run in front of goal and, while he was unable to add to that on Saturday, the former Gateshead striker felt it was a positive to see those around him weighing in with goals.

“Getting through is massive for the club because if you get a good draw you are only one off the first round and potentially a televised game,” he told Tom Feaheny.

“It was one of those games for me really, I don’t think I’d have scored if I’d have stayed here all night. The one that really frustrated me was when I hit the inside of the post – I thought it had gone in and when it didn’t I knew it wasn’t going to be my day.

“But it’s good to see Nicky and Gav scoring and the goals being spread about.”

Having been named the pick of the bunch by the league sponsors last month, Boyes will likely be required to continue his purple patch over the coming weeks with a tricky run of fixtures coming up for the Lions.

Saturday’s trip to last season’s play-off semi-finalists is followed by fixtures against Solihull Moors and Boyes’ former club Barrow.

“It’s a big achievement for myself, I won the award once last year but I didn’t expect it to come so early on this year,” he continued.

“I want to score as many goals as I can and maybe win it again but as long as the team are getting the goals that’s what matters.”

On the visit to North Ferriby, he added: “It’s always a tough place to go, we went there last year and they are strong and physical team.

“But I think we have enough quality to break them down.”

The draw for the FA Cup fourth qualifying round will take place live on TalkSPORT from 10am on Monday.
