Boyes: ‘A brilliant team performance’

After Guiseley saw off high-flyers North Ferriby United 1-0 at Nethermoor on Saturday, striker Adam Boyes declared the victory a team effort.

The Gateshead loanee played the whole game as the Lions were prevented from creating too many clear-cut chances following the second-half red carding of Ben Parker in what was always going to be a close-fought game.

Steven Drench’s penalty save helped make him many supporters’ man-of-the-match as the Lions completed the double over North Ferriby, but Boyes felt the victory proved the team spirit and work rate in the camp under Mark Bower.

“We dominated much of the game until the red card but then we defended like we know we can. Our two centre-halves have done brilliantly. I don’t think you can say anyone stood out individually, it was just a brilliant team performance”, he told Tom Feaheny.

The victory continued Guiseley’s push towards the play-offs – something they will look to maintain on Wednesday with a visit to Stalybridge Celtic.

Boyes feels the squad are now adept at taking on those at both ends of the table who require points for different reasons.

“You look at the result today and our performance (in the defeat) against AFC Telford, I don’t think anyone in this league is better than us on our day”, he added.

“The lads are all on a high in the dressing room and we are so confident, we are now just looking towards the next few games wanting to win.

“Stalybridge and Oxford will both be fighting to get points off us, but I feel Stalybridge play a lot like Ferriby and we have beaten both this past week. Against Oxford, like every side in the league, we have got to turn up and play our football.”
