Bower warns of tough Dover test

Lions boss Mark Bower hopes his side can finally achieve consistency in their results and build on Tuesday’s draw with Grimsby Town when Dover Athletic visit Nethermoor on Saturday.

Goals from Rob Atkinson and Nicky Boshell earned a point against Grimsby in midweek but Bower’s men face another promotion hopeful this weekend, with Saturday’s visitors having lost just twice in the Vanarama National League since the turn of the year.

Guiseley have drawn with fourth-placed Dover twice this season in the league and the FA Trophy – losing in a replay at Nethermoor last month – but Bower hopes his side can reproduce their midweek display and earn a first league win in seven attempts to pull further clear of the drop zone.

“Dover are a very different proposition [to Grimsby], but they’re a fantastic side on a great run so we have to make sure we’re right at it against them,” Bower said.

“They’re a very good side and if you’re looking for – not so much a dark horse – but one you could put your money on, they could be the ones to [do it].

“They’ve got a lot of physical strength but good footballers as well and I think they’ve got every chance of being a Football League club next season.

“But hopefully we can beat them Saturday and put a dent in that challenge they’ve got going, we’ve got to concentrate on ourselves and getting the lads right for Saturday.

“We’ll look to put in a performance and turn those draws into wins, it would make such a difference in the league table at this stage of the season.”
