Bower excited by Harriers test

Having secured their first points of the Vanarama National League season, Guiseley welcome Kidderminster Harriers to Nethermoor on Saturday.

Rob Atkinson’s first-half header ensured Mark Bower’s side a historic win against Altrincham as the Lions showed some impressive attacking play alongside resolute defending in the respective halves.

Saturday’s visitors have one point from their two outings this season, having been denied back-to-back draws by a late equaliser from Dover Athletic’s Stefan Payne in midweek.

Bower – who will again be without suspended player-assistant manager Danny Boshell – expects his side to face a different test against a Harriers side established in non-league’s top tier.

Discussing Tuesday’s win, Bower said: “We definitely needed it, the longer it takes to come the more the pressure builds up.

“It starts to play on people’s minds so to get it out of the way and put points on the board is massive for the lads and gives them great confidence.

“Teams are going to be on top of us, here at Guiseley we’ve not finished below fifth in the last few season – this season we’ll do very well to finish there.

“So there are going to be more games when teams put us under pressure and we might have to spend more time doing what we did in the second half.

“The first two games are probably more what we’ve been used to in the Conference North – Kidderminster are more established in the National League.

“It’ll be a different test for us but one we’ll look forward to – it’s what we’re here for, to mix it with the bigger clubs.”

As ever, we ask that those driving to Nethermoor park legally and sensibly. We recommend using the free car park on Netherfield Road.
