Bower Brings In Buchan

We are delighted to announce the signing of Jay Buchan following an impressive spell on trial with the club.

On the eve of their season’s start at Bamber Bridge on Saturday Guiseley AFC have added centre midfielder Jay Buchan to their squad, writes Rachel O’Connor.

He impressed in the pre-season friendlies against Leeds United U-21s, Silsden and Fleetwood.

Bradford-born Buchan comes to Guiseley after being released by beleaguered Sheffield Wednesday where he played in the Under-21s.

The 20 year-old started playing football for Bingley Juniors before becoming a scholar in the Leeds United Academy.

At the age of 18 he joined Sheffield Wednesday, signing a two year professional contract.

The young player still has ambitions of making it in the Football League but for now is content to help Guiseley with their ambitions of returning to National League North.

He said: “It is a good opportunity to come to a club like Guiseley. I want to help with their push for promotion and this season is about doing that but also getting games under my belt, improving my game and seeing where that can take me.”

Describing himself as a box-to-box midfielder Buchan said that fellow Guiseley player Sam Bentley had recommended the club to him.

“I also saw how well they had done last season getting to the play-offs so I think it is a good place to come,” said Buchan.

He added:”It is sad to see what is happening at Sheffield Wednesday but I did not see myself having a future there anyway.”

Jay’s home, away and training kits are both available to sponsor, find more information here or email james.pickles@guiseleyafc.co.uk
