Nicky Boshell’s stunning free-kick at Holker Street ensured the Lions a 1-1 draw against Barrow on Tuesday night.
On a superb late summer evening on a peach of a pitch the Lions extended their unbeaten run to three games with a 1-1 draw against last seasons Conference North title winners Barrow.
Despite having the best of the game early on the Lions were pegged back when Jason Walker pounced to net for the home side with Nicky Boshells superb free kick squaring matters just before the break.
The game opened at a fast pace with Adam Boyes going close to opening the visitors account with a shot across Joel Dixon that fizzed just the wrong side of the far post.
Tom Craddock also had a header into the danger area cleared by Danny Livesey before the lively Boyes turned a defender only to shoot straight at Dixon.
Andy Cook put a header over from a good position for the home side before the Bluebirds took the on 36 minutes when Steve Drench could only parry Cooks shot into the path of the unmarked Walker who fired home.
Guiseley’s reply came on the stroke of half time courtesy of Boshell’s precision strike over the wall and into the top corner giving Dixon no chance.
Boshell went close again on the restart but his audacious lob from 30 yards out landed on top of the net Walker then repeated the feat at the other end as the game ebbed and flowed.
The same player then missed a golden opportunity with only Drench to beat but pulled his shot wide of the mark.
Boyes went close again from Danny Boshells free kick but his header was just the wrong side of the post and the Lions were unlucky not to take the lead shortly after when Craddock’s low shot from the edge of the area cannoned off the foot of the post with Dixon beaten. However, the goalkeeper did well to recover and keep out Wayne Brooksby’s follow up.
Gavin Rothery and Liam Dickenson replaced Brooksby and Craddock late on but withwith neither side being able to find a decisive finish the spoils were shared.
Th Lions are now tenth in the table and entertain Aldershot Town at Nethermoor on Saturday (3:00 pm.)
