Guiseley got off to the best possible start at a sparsely-populated Bower Fold tonight as Josh Wilson’s low drive into the corner, from a free kick after Phil Marsh had been fouled, gave them the lead after just two minutes. After that, however, it was the youthful home side who made most of the running, and they eventually got their reward after 78 minutes when Chris Hall danced past two visiting defenders and rolled the ball across the six-yard line for Mitchell Austin to crash home the equaliser.
In between times, Josh Wilson missed a glorious chance to settle the game, being put through by man-of-the-match Seb Carole only to shoot high and wide with just Alex Cairns to beat. The Lions’ second-half performance was a marginal improvement on the first period, but one suspects that their relentless match schedule is beginning to take its toll.
