Guiseley Ladies 9 Lepton Highlanders 0
A superb display of passing football saw the ladies to a comfortable victory over a struggling Lepton side.
Guiseley went ahead within five minutes. A through ball found midfielder Julie Richardson who lifted the ball over the advancing keeper. With the wind at their backs Guiseley held the upper hand, but for the next twenty minutes could only produce a couple of shots from distance before, on the half hour, the ball broke to Richardson. Her shot was not held by the visiting keeper, but Louise Stringer was on hand to tap in.
Two more goals followed before the interval. Some fine build up play from the back saw Tanya Rich played in for a third, before a quick break saw Richardson take the ball round the keeper to effectively end the game.
After the break Lepton looked to hold a high line at the back, but time and again Guiseley played their way in behind the defence. Guiseley were guilty of some wayward finishing for a period before Kerry Zserdicky’s fine crossfield ball found Tanya Rich who rolled the ball across goal to give Louise Stringer a tap in for her second goal of the game. Guiseley then hit the bar twice in two minutes and were kept from adding to their score by some decent goalkeeping, including a good recovery save after a shot was wickedly deflected. From a corner the bar again came to Lepton’s rescue, but this time Charlotte Blyth followed up her own effort to make it six.
Julie Richardson played in Louise Stringer for her hat trick, and a good one two between Tanya Rich and Amanda Barr saw the latter get herself on the score sheet. Late on a free kick from deep was played over the top and Tanya Rich tapped in to finish the scoring.
The consistency of the artificial surface at St Mary’s helped the ladies play some very attractive football against a side who remained spirited until late in the game despite the scoreline. On Sunday the ladies travel to Hull to take on Malet Lambert in the league cup.
