Two goals apiece from newly arrived loanee Raul Correia and John Rooney gave Guiseley a 4-1 win in their penultimate pre-season friendly against Handsworth Paramore at Worksop Town this evening.
The first half saw the visitors enjoy plenty of possession without really threatening the home goal with the two best opportunities falling to Correia and a Trialist both of whom put their shots way over the bar.
The second half as a different story as first Rooney opened the scoring with a vicious in-swinging corner nine minutes in that left Handsworth keeper clutching at fresh air.
The lead was short-lived however as two Guiseley defenders failed to clear their lines leaving Paramore’s Aaron Moxam with a straightforward finish just after the hour.
Not to be denied the Lions showed their class when Correia latched on to a through ball, held off his marker and slipped the ball under the advancing keeper to restore the visitors advantage on 67 minutes.
The home side then had a golden opportunity to restore parity shortly after but their substitute put his effort over the bar.
Handsworth then fell further behind on 89 minutes as Correia got his head on the end of Rooney’s pinpoint cross to bag his second of the night.
The Portuguese then returned the favour as he slipped the ball to the unmarked Rooney who fired home from the edge of the area a minute later to wrap up a good night’s work for the Lions ahead of Saturday’s final friendly against Darlington at Nethermoor (ko 3pm)
