Basement Battle Ends All Square

It’s as you were at the foot of the table after this evening relegation clash at Bootham Crescent with Guiseley ended all square with Jake Cassidy’s late equaliser ensuring a share of the points.

Jonathan Maxted proved his worth early on with a trio of important saves as the home side started at pace but after soaking up the initial pressure the Lions began to grow into the game.

Jordan Preston had a shot tipped round the post and although the half ended with the Lions having a succesion of corner but were unable to profit from them.

The visitors started the second half where they had left off and Rob Atkinson was unlucky to see his goal bound header cleared off the line but it was the home side who took the lead through substitute Callum Rzonca when he curled home a shot into the far corner just after the hour.

Guiseley pressed but to no avail until with five minutes remaining Simon Walton floated in a free kick that found the unmarked Cassidy who made no mistake from twelve yards to grab his fifth goal of the season with just five minutes left on the clock.
