Academy Win In Style At Boston

The young man who rejoices in the name of Rafael Marques Ferreira certainly had people name checking him after his goalscoring exploits in the Academy’s latest win.

Raf has had his previous scores down this season as Raf Marques – the name he is known as by his manager Dave Currie but he confessed that his surname is actually Ferreira and Marques is his middle name!

At Boston on Wednesday afternoon Raf hit a hat-trick in quick time as Guiseley moved 3-0 up. His second strike came as he put the rebound from a penalty home.

Lewis Hey netted Guiseley’s fourth with a looping header in the 29th minute before Boston pulled one back from a free-kick.

Darwin King’s left footed sledge hammer of a shot into the top corner left the Boston ‘keeper no chance as The Lions roared into a 5-1 lead.

Raf was then back on the scoring trail taking the score to 6-1 when he fired low and hard across the ‘keeper. Enjoying a great performance Raf netted his fifth as a result of a quick free-kick which resulted in Nathan Newall firing the ball across the six yard box for Raf to force home.

It was now 7-2 after Boston had netted early in the second-half. Raf however was not satisfied with one hat-trick, he had to have two and bagged his sixth goal from the penalty spot to make it 8-2.

Joe Webster then decided to have a piece of the action with an exquisite lob from all of 30 yards to take it to 9-2.

That man Raf was not yet done and added his seventh goal for 10-3. Nathan Newall completed the scoring at 11-3 with a real thunderbolt to finish off an excellent afternoon’s work by Dave Currie’s young charges.

The Young Lions return to action next week with a trip to AFC Fylde on Wednesday 30th October with kick-off at 2pm.
