Academy Slip To Defeat At Gateshead

After a rare defeat in their game at Gateshead on Wednesday, the academy are seeking all the support they can get for a vital home game against South Shields at Nethermoor next Monday, 1:30pm kick-off.

The 2-1 defeat at Gateshead leaves Dave Currie’s boys needing a positive result against South Shields in a game that will go a long way to deciding where the title goes this season.

South Shields have four games in hand but a win for The Young Lions would give them the title.

In what was only their second defeat in 18 league games Guiseley went a goal down but Adam Haw continued his rich vein of scoring form with an equaliser which took his tally to seven goals over the last seven games.

Ten minutes into the second-half Gateshead regained the lead and an inspired performance by their goalkeeper prevented Guiseley from scoring. He made some great saves to keep Guiseley out.

Guiseley’s Head of Academy Dave Currie said: “The players came up against a Gateshead team who fought for every inch today. We missed some good chances that on another day we would have scored but credit to Gateshead’s defence who were pretty solid, and when we did break the defence their ‘keeper was in excellent form.”

“There are a lot of twists and turns in football and it means that we now have to face a very strong South Shields team on Monday but we will prepare for it and look to bounce back. The players have been excellent all season and a good turnout of support on Monday would only be what they deserve.”

Entry to Monday’s vital game is FREE with kick-off at Nethermoor Park at 1:30pm.
