Academy Put 12 Past Harrogate Town

Guiseley Academy consolidated their position at the top of the National League U-19 Alliance Division I with a comprehensive 12-1 win to complete the double over Harrogate Town (College).

In their previous league clash with Town Guiseley emerged 12-0 victors.

In Wednesday’s game, played at County HQ at Woodlesford, Harrogate took the lead but Guiseley soon got into their stride and had a 5-1 lead at the break.

They added seven further goals in the second-half and there were braces for Kieron Ceesay, Aleks Starcenko, Luke Hogg and Nathan Newall. Other goals came from Adam Haw, Lewis Collett and subs Charlie Heath and Mustapha Coker.

Ceesay and Hogg are in red hot form with Ceesay’s two goals taking his tally to ten in nine games since coming into the side and Hogg scoring in five successive games.

It is tribute to the side’s ability to score from all positions that 16 different players have got their name on the scoresheet for the team so far this season.

They have taken injuries to key players and the loss of leading scorer Jake Young to a pro contract at Sheffield United in their stride as they have notched up 11 league wins in 12 games and have a goal difference of 52.

They top the table by ten points from Gateshead who have played a game more than Guiseley.

Guiseley v Harrogate – Fletch Paley; Joe Straker, Luke Hogg, Nick Brayshaw, Nathan Newall; Adam Haw, Lewis Collett, Aleks Starcenko, Lewis Waddington; Kieron Ceesay, Joe Webster. Subs: Charlie Heath, Mustapha Coker, Robbie Fox, Lewis Jackson.

Their next game is at home to Eccleshill United on Wednesday, February 27th, kicking-off at 2pm.

The Guiseley Academy team at Shipley College are now in the quarter-finals of the English Schools and Colleges U-18s Elite Cup after coming back from being  1-0 down to beat a strong Sunderland College team 2-1.

Both of the goals were scored by the in form Kieron Ceesay who recently signed first team forms for Guiseley.

It was a very young Shipley College side that played against a team made up of players from title challengers South Shields FC.

They now face Preston College for a semi-final place against Balby Carr College.
