The Guiseley AFC Youth Academy picked up their first competitive win, overcoming Hallam FC 5-3 to reach the next round of the FA Youth Cup.
A cold, wet night in Guiseley saw a slow start by both teams. After 16 minutes, a great cross from Jake Ledger split open the defence, giving Zack Dale a easy side-foot volley from five yards.
Guiseley settled on the ball, dominating possession, and after 32 minutes a long-range free-kick from Callum Marshall put the home side 2-0 up. Hallam reacted with a counter-attack from a defensive mistake to pull a goal back.
After 36 minutes, another free-kick from Marshall put the Lions 3-1 up, then a direct run from Luke Porritt earned Guiseley a penalty that Marshall calmly slotted away, earning him a first half hat-trick.
The second half started off slowly, with both teams looking sloppy. Soon after the hour mark, Ben Whitfield and Ben Walker steadied the ship with some fine passing that created a second goal for Dale.
Guiseley then sat back inviting pressure and two defensive mistakes were capitalised upon, leaving the score 5-3. There was an attendance of 90 and a strong performance from Guiseley, particularly Luke Robinson and Walker.
The win earned the lads a home fixture against Brighouse Town in the week commencing 1st October, and they are now two games away from going into the hat with the full-time professional clubs.
