Academy & First Team Update

We are proud to announce that following the curtailment of the Vanarama National League North and National League Youth Academy seasons, a number of our young talents have been invited for trials at Football League outfits which is testament to the hard work our academy and first team management put in.

Lewis Hey has spent a week with Stoke City, a week with Sunderland AFC and is currently at Brentford FC, featuring for their B team in a fixture against Forest Green in which former Academy product Jake Young scored for the visiting team. Lewis also featured against Chelsea U23’s, assisting the opening goal of the game.

Adam Haw has also been on trial with Brentford FC and had a brilliantly taken goal disallowed for offside in the fixture against Forest Green.

Sunderland AFC is also where Nathan Newall had a two week trial, featuring against both Wolves and Crystal Palace Under 23’s. Nathan is currently on trial with Stoke City. Nathan has been with The Lions since he was 14 years old and scored his first goal for the first team in a 1-1 draw at Boston United earlier this season, following impressive loan spells at Frickley Athletic and Ossett United.

Chukwudalu Molokwu is currently with Huddersfield Town after spending some time with Doncaster Rovers, and having spent the week at Stoke City alongside Lewis Hey. Chukwudalu made his first senior start for The Lions on Boxing Day against Farsley Celtic.

Joining Chukwudalu at Huddersfield Town is Hagie Damba. Hagie is yet to make his competitive debut for the Lions but was on the bench for our FA Cup fixtures this season, before going out on loan to Eccleshill United until the curtailment of their season.

Head of Academy Dave Currie added;

“When Marcus and Russ arrived as the management team we sat down and set out a defined pathway throughout the club and clear progressions from our Centre of Excellence, into our Youth team and then onto our 1st team. We have more than achieved this through six Academy players being in the 1st team squad for National League fixtures in season 20/21.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that our players have attracted the attention of professional clubs and we are delighted that the system we have in place in working.

The Youth players know that if they are working hard and performing they WILL get the chance to progress into the 1st team and beyond. We wish them all the very best and hope they enjoy the experience.”
