A hat-trick within ten minutes by substitute Adam Haw assisted Guiseley Academy to a 7-1 win over Frickley Athletic at Leeds Trinity University to keep the Young Lions firmly on top of the National League U-19 Alliance Division I.
The Young Lions, with three games to play, now hold an eight point lead over second-placed York City and have a game in hand over the Minstermen.
Fourth placed South Shields are the only team who mathematically could challenge Guiseley but only if Guiseley have a bad loss of form and take less than three points from their remaining three games.
The seven goals in the win over Frickley saw Guiseley take their goal difference to 65, by far the highest in the division.
Guiseley led 3-1 at the break with two goals from Rafael Marques Ferreira and one from Luke Hogg.
It remained 3-1 until 20 minutes from the end when substitutes Adam Haw and Robbie Fox made an immediate impact with Haw netting his hat-trick and Fox netting the other goal.
Guiseley’s team was: Declan Lambton; Ben Darkins, Lewis Waddington, Nick Brayshaw, Nathan Newall; Luke Higg, Joe Webster, Aleks Starcenko, Tabish Hussain; Raf Ferreira, Kieron Ceesay. Subs:Adam Haw, Robbie Fox, Akram Aliyu, Lewis Jackson, Mustapha Coker (all used).
