Chesterfield FC Academy 1 – 3 Guiseley AFC Academy
On Wednesday Guiseley AFC Academy travelled south to face Conference Youth Alliance newcomers Chesterfield FC. A tough game was expected and this was evident straight from kick-off – within 45 seconds the home team went 1-0 up after a long ball dropped between centre-backs Dunne and Robson and the Chesterfield number 9 hit a stunning volley into the top corner leaving new academy keeper Connor Crossley helpless.
Chesterfield were looking the brighter side and had obviously taken confidence from their early goal. The visitors from Nethermoor were lucky not to go further behind but Crossley kept the score 1-0 with a fine save.
Midway through the first half Guiseley began to take control of the game and start creating chances of their own. Continued pressure took its toll on the young Chesterfield team with Redmond Lee and Ben Whitfield scoring two good goals in a ten minute spell.
After the break Chesterfield still looked positive and continued to try to play attractive football. However Guiseley were the team who looked more dangerous in attack and Ben Whitfield volleyed home after Luke Porritt whipped in a corner to make it 3-1 and put the game to bed.
The win continues the positive start to the season but the management and players will be looking to take it one game at a time, starting with a tough FA Youth Cup tie against last season’s conquerors Brighouse Town on Tuesday evening at Nethermoor with a 7pm kick-off.
