Academy Complete League Double Over York

Guiseley Academy switched their home game against York City to Bradford Park Avenue’s all-weather pitch at the Horsfall Stadium on Wednesday morning, writes Rachel O’Connor.

The National League Under-19 Alliance North game saw Guiseley triumph 2-1 with two goals from Kyle Burrows to complete the league double over the Minstermen.

It was a good match that was in the balance right to the end and the result could have gone either way.

Guiseley took a 1-0 lead through Burrows into the second-half but York showed their intent by hitting the woodwork twice in the first-half.

Shortly after the second-half got underway York levelled. Guiseley hit the bar before scoring the winner mid-way through the half, again through Burrows.

Both teams had chances to score and it was a nail-biting last few minutes that the Young Lions had to endure before walking away with the points.

This win sees Guiseley in equal seventh place with Altrincham but they have games in hand on some of the teams above them.

Guiseley: Callum Bradbury; Sam Walters, K’marni Miller, Tanaka Maumbe, Lewin Storton, Ricardo Grey, Jack Mason, Oliwier Grzelak, Danyaal Khan (Jake Kilbride) and Kyle Burrows.

The Academy’s leading scorers are: Brad Wood 10, Jack Mason 6, K’marni Miller 5, Kyle Burrows 3.
