Amir Berchil’s late penalty helped Guiseley book their place in the Emirates FA Cup Second Round Qualifying, writes David Bridson.

The spot-kick, earned by Berchil following a dazzling run, helped the Lions to a 2-1 win over Stockton Town in this First Round Qualifying replay at Nethermoor.

Guiseley’s reward is a trip to high-flying National League North side Hebburn Town on Saturday 19th September.

Kallan Murphy’s clever 48th minute header opened the scoring.

Berchil’s sublime 90th minute penalty doubled the lead before Adam Nicholson’s powerful 94th minute header forced a nervy finale.

The evening began poorly as Guiseley’s Adam Lund went down following a nasty collision after just 35 seconds.

But the Lions showed plenty of early attacking prowess.

Aaron Martin’s vigorous fourth minute header was spectacularly tipped over by Town goalkeeper Nathan Harker.

A fierce defensive elbow sent Lund flying in the fifth minute.

A dangerous Cam Wilson cross was punched away by Harker three minutes later.

Josh Scott headed wide in the tenth as Stockton sought to reverse the pressure.

Lebrun Mbeka replaced the troubled Lund in the 13th minute.

The game became more open as both sides looked for the lead.

Lions captain Ollie Brown’s deft cross nearly found the threatening Jordan Thewlis’ head fifteen minutes in.

A stunning Jack Tinker challenge prevented a pacey 23rd minute Anchors counter attack.

Thewlis’ 29th minute cross was too hard to trouble Town.

The same player’s cracking 36th minute strike was superbly stopped by Harker.

Martin’s ferocious hit was parried behind by the busy Harker three minutes later.

Murphy’s shot somehow slipped wide just a minute later.

Lewis King’s vicious 42nd minute attempt was blocked by a resolute Lions defence.

Murphy’s beautiful 45th minute run concluded with a sterling curling effort which slipped agonisingly past the post.

But the formidable forward gave the Lions the lead with his fanciful flicked header.

Thewlis was an eyelash away from sliding on to Wilson’s storming cross just two minutes later.

Jack Hall made a decent save from Cameron Painter in the 53rd minute.

Scott fired over three minutes later as the visitors pushed for an equaliser.

Wilson’s forceful free-kick was slammed straight at Harker in the 58th minute.

Berchil’s 72nd minute introduction in place of Wilson gave the Lions alternative attacking edge.

The classy winger proved too much for the Anchors to keep a grip of.

Town remained a threat as substitute Jaedon Faulkner dragged his 74th minute shot wide.

Berchil’s compelling 83rd minute effort was deflected behind.

His cross was nearly pounced upon by Murphy two minutes later.

Berchil’s sizzling run saw him hauled down in the box in the 88th minute.

The resulting penalty was smashed home into the bottom left-hand corner by the difference-making substitute.

Fellow replacement Harrison Hopper made a staggering goal-line block with his lower chest in the 92nd minute.

Nicholson’s savage header proved too late for the visitors to impact the result.

Guiseley face Quorn in league action at Nethermoor on Saturday 12th September with a 3pm kick-off.
