Jack Hall preserved a precious point for Guiseley in a dramatic encounter at Workington, writes David Bridson.

The Lions goalkeeper made a spectacular penalty save from Luke Hunter to ensure Guiseley clung on to a 2-2 draw.

The Lions were 2-0 up courtesy of a sublime 17th minute Aaron Martin header and a beautiful 33rd minute Cam Wilson penalty.

But away captain Matty Douglas’ neat 68th minute finish halved the deficit before Hunter’s precisely placed 86th minute strike levelled the scores.

Hunter sought to complete the comeback with his 90th minute penalty but Hall leapt brilliantly to deny the attacker.

The Lions began brightly as the lively Jay Rollins’ deft first minute chip signalled Guiseley’s intentions.

Captain Lebrun Mbeka made a brave block to halt a threatening Workington attack two minutes later.

Aaron Martin’s header looped over via Amir Berchil’s fifth minute cross.

Mbeka made a second sturdy block to prevent Brennan Dickinson in the 12th minute.

Lucas Odunston’s clever cross was coolly finished by Martin five minutes later.

The Reds quickly pressured the Lions as they looked to level.

Dickinson found himself unmarked in the 25th minute but thankfully headed wide.

Workington striker Kai Nugent’s shot lacked power four minutes later.

Odunston made a stern stop to thwart Tom Stephenson’s tricky run moments later.

A 32nd minute trip on Berchil during an imposing move enabled Wilson to fire home into the bottom right hand corner from the spot.

A shell-shocked Workington again went at the Lions but Dickinson’s weak attempt was straight at Hall.

A thumping Elliot Owen header cannoned off the post in the 38th minute as Guiseley pushed to treble their lead.

Jack Tinker’s resolute defending averted a dangerous Reds counter-attack mere moments later.

Jay Rollins’ silky strike somehow pinged off the bar in the 41st minute.

Half-time substitute Jordan Thewlis netted in the 51st minute but was ruled offside.

A pacey Thewlis run earned Guiseley a 55th minute corner but the lively striker fired high and over from it.

The alert Tinker headed away a Hunter cross that looked destined for Stephenson’s head in the 61st minute.

But with the home side piling on pressure Douglas’ strike flew in seven minutes later.

Adam Lund went down following a clash on the edge of the box in the 74th minute.

The Lions defender’s head was wrapped in bandage by physio Martin Stringfellow following a lengthy delay in play.

Charlie Staniland couldn’t quite find Thewlis after hazily sprinting past home goalkeeper Alex Mitchell in the 84th minute.

Hunter’s strike slipped agonisingly past Hall two minutes later.

But the same player failed to put the home side in front thanks to Hall’s dazzling antics.

With six minutes added on the game was anyone’s for the taking.

Hall made a decent catch from a dangerous Workington cross in the 92nd minute.

Mbeka headed over a minute later but the Lions left Borough Park with just a point.

Guiseley are next in league action at home to Bury on Tuesday 18th August with a 7.45pm kick-off.

The Lions are at Curzon Ashton on Saturday 22nd August in a 3pm kick-off.
