Guiseley managed to have multiple chances throughout the game, but they failed to take their chances and lacked a final touch, with the side drawing 1-1 Barnsley FC in their last game of pre-season, writes Leo Goy.

The home side named a youthful bench ahead of kick-off with academy players Matteo James, Dan Brookes, Alfie Dawes and Wil Temple all featuring  as substitutes.

In what was almost a perfect start for Guiseley they took the lead through Amir Berchil with the winger slotting it into an open net with Evan Anderson undecided whether to come for the ball, but the linesman called for offside.

The Lions then won a free kick outside of the box, but Harrison Hopper shot the free kick straight into the Barnsley wall.

The home side continued their good start to the game Cam Wilson drove the ball down the wing and delivered the ball into the box, but his cross was blocked by the Barnsley defender, and nothing came from the corner.

Guiseley managed to defend well alongside their positive start, with them being able to clear a ball which was sent over the top from a Barnsley throw in.

Barnsley then managed to get into a dangerous position and send the ball across Guiseley’s penalty area, but no one in a red shirt could get to the cross.

Following this, Guiseley lost possession of the ball at the back and the ball landed to a Barnsley attacker, but he couldn’t capitalise with his shot going wide.

After this, Berchil drove down the wing and nutmegged the Barnsley defender then he found Hopper in the box, but his cross was blocked.

Barnsley then earnt themselves a corner but there was too much on the ball to find a red shirt.

Following this, Kieron Graham for Barnsley picked up the first yellow card of the game.

The Lions then found Hopper out wide and he whipped the ball in and for Lebrun Mbeka at the back post then he found Elliot Owen, but his header was saved by the Barnsley goalkeeper.

In the 28th minute Berchil managed to drive down the wing yet again and get a shot off, but his effort was saved by Anderson and the rebound from Charlie Staniland was blocked by the keeper.

Following this just before the 30th minute mark, with a Barnsley player down injured the referee called for a hydration break.

Barnsley then made the first change of the game with former Lion Lewis Gould replacing the injured Noah Town.

Following, the hydration break Mbeka found space down the wing and then found Wilson, but pass was intercepted.

The Lions continued to attack with Wilson winning the flick on and Berchil chased the ball, but the keeper beat him to it.

Then Barnsley had a chance of their own with O’Rian Reid getting a shot away and won a corner, but nothing came from the set piece.

Following this, Barnsley had another two chances in quick succession with Noah Saunders finding Idriss Namisi out wide, but his shot/cross went wide. Additionally, Reid found space in the box, but the strikers shot was blocked by Elliot Owen.

In the 43rd minute Hopper found Wilson in the box and Guiseley’s number 10 hit an arrowed strike which beat Anderson and The Lions took the lead.

Just before half-time Berchil found Wilson just inside the box, but his shot was saved by Anderson at the near post.

Following this, the referee would blow his whistle to bring the half to the end, with the Lions being a goal to the good thanks to Wilson.

At half-time The Lions then made their first change of the match with Jordan Thewlis replacing Harrison Hopper. Additionally, Barnsley made a double change with Tayo Dunne and Franklin Middleton replacing former Lion Calum Hudson and Toure Murray

Guiseley continued their good start to the match and looked to extend their lead, with Wilson getting a shot way in the box, but his attempt was saved by Anderson.

Following this, in the 52nd minute Reid received a ball from out wide, and he managed to get a powerful shot off which left Jack Hall stranded.

Then the Lions looked to retake the lead with Mbeka finding Berchil out wide and he drove into the box but was unable to get past the Barnsley defender.

Tayo Dunne for Barnsley then picked up a yellow card for a late challenge on the Guiseley player, but nothing came from the Lions free kick.

Barnsley striker Reid then played the ball out wide, but his teammates cross was saved by Hall.

Following this, Barnsley made another change with Namisi coming off for Jake Andrassy.

Guiseley then had a further chance with Owen winning a free header in the box from a free kick, but his effort was saved.

Then in the 70th minute The Lions missed four chances in quick succession, with Owen’s header going just wide and his shot was blocked. Then Anderson managed to save two shots from Berchil and Paul Iggulden.

Ian Richards then made another change with Temple replacing Paul Iggulden who went down with an injury prior to the substitution.

Following the change, The Lions then have another close chance on the volley, but it went just over the bar.

Barnsley then had their own attack with Robson Woodcock crossing the ball into the box, but his ball couldn’t find anyone in a Barnsley shirt.

Wilson then played a free kick into the box in the search of Owen, but Max Rayner for Barnsley managed to clear the ball away.

In the 81st minute Barnsley then had a big chance with Reid being 1 on 1 with Hall but the Guiseley goalkeeper managed to save it at his near post, and nothing came from the follow up.

Following this, in the 82nd minute Berchil, Wilson, Mbeka and Hall all made way for Alfie Dawes, Matteo James, Dan Brookes and Michael Roxburgh.

After Ian Richards freshened up his side, The Lions then earnt themselves a corner, but Barnsley managed to clear it away.

Following this, the referee blew the final whistle and brought an end to the Lions’ pre-season.

Despite Guiseley looking for the winner, the game would finish 1-1, with each side having lots of chances in an exciting affair.
