In a raft of incomings for the new season midfielder Adam Lund became Guiseley manager Ian Richards’ second signing following his departure from Alfreton Town, writes Rachel O’Connor.
Richards expects the midfielder, who can also play in defence, to bring experience, physicality and energy to his team.
He said of his new signing: “Adam is a player I have admired from his early days at Staveley Miners Welfare. Since joining Alfreton he has become a leader, a competitor with 250 games of experience at National League North level, a high number as captain. He is still only 27 and will bring that experience alongside quality, physicality and energy to the squad.”
Of his move to Guiseley Lund said: “My biggest motivation was the aspirations of the club, it is going places. They were in National North not all that long ago and they are desperate to get back there and I hope to help them do so.
He added: “I know a couple of the lads in the team in Jordan Thewlis and Ollie Brown, and I know the manager and it is good to hook back up with them. I spoke to Jordan about the club and he was nothing but positive about the club. I am looking forward to the challenge ahead. I am aiming to play as many games as possible and make a contribution to the team.”
Lund has spent the previous six seasons with Alfreton after coming through Barnsley’s Academy set up, a set up where his manager and coach for a number of years was Guiseley AFC legend Vinnie Brockie.
Of Guiseley’s former midfielder Brockie Lund said: “He was a great coach and he pulled me through at times. He was my coach for a few years and he was brilliant.”
Lund, who lives near Selby, started out with Snaith Juniors and then signed for the Leeds United Academy aged six remaining there until he was 14 when he moved to the Barnsley Academy.
He signed as a first year pro there before joining Goole then made the move to North Yorkshire to play for Pickering Town. A year later he joined Staveley MW where he had two seasons and that was where he first caught the attention of Richards.
Lund explained: “I was playing for Staveley and Ian was managing Penistone and we talked a few times and kept in touch.”
The player then made a three division leap to sign for Billy Heath at Alfreton to play in the National League North. Lund described Heath as “A great manager and a great guy.”
During his two years with Staveley they finished 7th and 3rd respectively but his second campaign was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic with his side just two points off top spot with three games in hand.
Lund was crowned Alfreton’s Supporters’ Player-of-the-Season just a few weeks ago and made his 200th appearance for the club in August 2025.
The midfielder was integral to an Alfreton side which made the play-offs in back to back seasons and played alongside several former Lions including George Cantrill, Nathan Newall, Jake Day, Connor Branson, Dayle Southwell, Milan Butterfield, Scott Garner, Ken Digie, Kwame Boateng, Joe Stacey, Akeel Francis, Billy Whitehouse and George Sykes-Kenworthy.
Away from football Lund is a safeguarding officer in a primary school and enjoys playing golf, especially at Thorne Golf Club where he is a member.
