A last-gasp Derren Boyle goal secured Guiseley a fourth consecutive friendly victory, writes David Bridson.

The close-range 93rd strike completed a remarkable comeback with Guiseley coming from 1-2 behind to defeat Blackburn Rovers Under-21s 3-2.

Boyle’s dramatic strike was his first senior goal for the Lions.

With Ian Richards on holiday goalkeeping coach Pete Goldstraw took charge of this frenetic contest.

Harry Lister opened the scoring for the visitors in the 38th minute with a neat finish into the bottom left corner.

The Lions levelled in the 48th minute through a trademark well-placed Elliot Owen header.

Rovers took the lead via a classy Ollie Flynn flick in the 80th minute.

Paul Iggulden tapped in to level matters in the 89th minute before Boyle poked the ball home four minutes later to send home supporters into raptures.

Rovers enjoyed the first chance of the game in a first half otherwise dominated by the Lions as Lister slammed the post in the fourth minute.

Amir Berchil’s curling effort sailed over a minute later.

The dynamic Jay Rollins was halted by a resiliant Lancashire backline before Aaron Martin headed just wide in the seventh minute.

Berchil fired over following a pacey 14th minute Guiseley counter-attack.

Lions captain Ollie Brown made two outstanding tackles to deny Blackburn’s dash up-front.

Cam Wilson’s 28th minute strike was well blocked before opposition goalkeeper Nick Michalski leapt well to palm away Rollins’ fiery hit.

Away striker Harvey Higgins’ attempt was well held by Guiseley ‘keeper Jack Hall a minute later.

Harrison Hopper’s threatening cross narrowly evaded enrushing Guiseley attackers in the 36th minute.

Lister’s opener came against the run of play but was a quality finish.

Berchil’s thunderous 41st minute strike was thumped clear by a scrambling away defence as Guiseley immediately sought an equaliser.

Rollins’ fierce belter following a dazzling run was tipped onto the bar by Michalski two minutes later.

The dangerous Martin headed wide just prior to half-time but was ruled offside.

It took Guiseley just three second-half minutes to level – Owen leapt highest to latch onto the end of a trademark Adam Lund long throw.

Martin’s ferocious 52nd minute shot struck the post before Owen whipped over.

Rovers substitute James Edmondson lashed Guiseley’s post two minutes later before Higgins’ effort slipped inches wide.

The lively Berchil hit wide following a feisty 55th minute run.

A bizarre attacking melee saw the ball seemingly stuck inbetween a cluster of players just before the hour mark.

With the game finely poised Martin bashed the post from Berchil’s pinpoint 62nd minute cross.

The rebounding bounce off a Rovers defender nearly slipped past a bedazzled Michalski.

Flynn’s 70th minute cross was well caught by substitute Lions ‘keeper Mikey Roxburgh.

Iggulden denied Archie McCoy with a sterling defensive block eight minutes later.

Substitute Flynn paid dividends with his stylish 80th minute finish.

The same player blazed over three minutes later following a short backpass to Roxburgh.

Brown’s fervent strike nearly resulted in a quick-fire equaliser before Charlie Staniland fired over.

But the Lions’ persistance paid off as Iggulden calmly slotted home via a corner before Boyle won it with virtually the last kick of the game.

Guiseley are next in friendly action on Tuesday 28th July at Pontefract Collieries with a 7:30pm kick-off.

The Lions then finish their friendly campaign by hosting Barnsley on Sunday 2nd August with a 2pm kick-off.
