Guiseley came from behind to triumph 3-1 at relegation haunted Rushall Olympic, writes David Bridson.
An own goal, Jordan Thewlis and Mo Fadera helped Guiseley secure a vital three points.
Joe Cracknell made a crucial penalty save with the game finely poised at 1-1.
The Pics began the game brightly as Anthony Dwyer’s third minute strike was well caught by Cracknell.
Olympic’s fifth minute opener came courtesy of the same player’s crisp chip over the chasing Lions ‘keeper.
Guiseley immediately pressed to level as Joao Silva slammed wide in the eighth minute.
Both sides soon scrapped for control with plenty of midfield warfare engaged.
Jamie Willets narrowly missed getting his head to Carter Lycett’s 21st minute corner.
Luke Enright was an eyelash away from meeting a threatening cross just moments later.
Jack Emmett fired over the bar as the dangerous Amir Berchil then launched an impressive counter attack.
The Lions’ 34th minute leveller came via a precarious Kyle White cross which Willets lashed into his own net.
Berchil was mere inches away from slotting Guiseley in front five minutes later.
Ollie Brown was adjudged to have tripped Lycett in the box two minutes before half-time but Cracknell tipped Enright’s resulting penalty onto the post.
Berchil hammered home in first half stoppage time but was ruled offside.
Despite Nick Clayton-Phillips’ 47th minute shot deflecting to the grateful Cracknell Guiseley dominated the second-half.
Thewlis fired high over the bar in the 48th minute.
Silva blasted over four minutes later.
Thewlis slipped a sly 54th minute effort underneath the home goalkeeper Jenson Kilroy to give the Lions a deserved lead.
Just two minutes later his shot via a neat Silva pass was blocked.
Kilroy scrambled to save Emmett’s 57th minute goalbound strike before palming Berchil’s fierce attempt onto the bar.
Five minutes later Thewlis swivelled delightfully but his shot lacked power.
White hit across goal via another sublime Silva ball in the 63rd minute.
Harrison Hopper blitzed the side netting with his 78th minute opportunity.
With Olympic failing to foray forward much Guiseley continued to pressure their opponents.
The six minutes added time didn’t faze the Lions.
88th minute substitute Mo Fadera sealed victory with a tidy 91st minute finish for his first goal for the club.
Berchil’s slick 95th minute corner narrowly evaded Elliot Owen’s head.
Guiseley are now crucially ten points clear of the relegation zone with just five games left for most teams.
The Lions also move up to 11th following victory.
Guiseley are next in league action at home to Hyde United on Saturday 4th April with a 3pm kick-off before visiting Gainsborough Trinity on Easter Monday.
