Lionesses March On In Women’s County Cup

Guiseley Lionesses delivered a stunning attacking performance to progress to the next round of the County FA Women’s Trophy, putting sixteen goals past Ryburn United without reply in a dominant away display, writes Kelly Lambert.

From the opening whistle, Guiseley asserted control with high pressing and fluid attacking play that left the hosts struggling to contain the relentless waves of pressure. Goals came from across the team, but the standout firepower came from Keegan Lambert, who netted an incredible seven goals, and Demi Pringle with an equally impressive six.

Guiseley started strongly, immediately penning Ryburn into their own half with aggressive pressing and sharp passing combinations. Early chances came from Millie Fletcher, Lambert and Aleathia Smith, with shots narrowly wide and a header falling just off target. Freja Evans was unlucky to strike the post after a smart ball over the top from Smith, and Fletcher soon followed up by rattling the crossbar. The breakthrough came in the 19th minute when a superb pass from the defensive line found Pringle, who rounded the goalkeeper and calmly slotted home.

Just over 10 minutes later, a clearance from Ryburn bounced off Pringle’s shin and found the back of the net, doubling Guiseley’s lead.

That sparked a scoring spree. Lambert opened her account with a composed finish following a driven run and cross from Evans. Moments later, she doubled her tally, battling the keeper in the box to force the ball in. Pringle got her first-half hat trick with a confident finish after Lambert flicked the ball through the middle. Lambert then completed her first-half hat-trick after an impressive sequence involving Fletcher, Smith, and a clever layoff into her path.

Second Half

Guiseley returned from the break with even more intensity and continued to dominate all areas of the pitch. A long ball from Emily Gill nearly led to another for Lambert, but her shot was well saved. Just minutes later, Sophie Fowler sent a brilliant ball over the top to Lambert, who took on two defenders and rifled it into the net for her fourth of the day.

The pressure didn’t stop. Lambert and Pringle both saw efforts saved in quick succession before Lambert delivered a pinpoint corner that found Smith, who headed in her first goal of the match with power and precision.

Pringle added another soon after, and Fletcher capped off her excellent performance with a well-taken goal, dribbling around a defender before finishing inside the box. As Ryburn tired, Guiseley’s dominance only grew.

Fisher played a perfectly weighted ball through to Pringle, who slotted in her fifth.

Guiseley maintained their dominance, with Lambert continuing her impressive scoring run. She notched another goal from close range after a precise cross from Evans who expertly squared the ball across the face of goal. Fowler then joined the scoring, capitalising on a long clearance from Gill, cutting inside before unleashing a powerful finish into the net.

The combination of Pringle and Lambert struck again, as Pringle delivered a well-timed square ball allowing Lambert to slot home her sixth, completing her double hat-trick. Just two minutes later, Lambert added another to her tally, expertly rounding the goalkeeper once again before finishing with composure.

In the final moments, Evans tore down the wing yet again and found Pringle with a pinpoint cross, which she calmly finished to seal her double hat-trick and the 16–0 scoreline.

Guiseley demonstrated outstanding team cohesion, combining attacking depth, defensive discipline, and relentless energy across the full 90 minutes.

The result was a true collective effort — with key contributions from every area of the pitch, including creative build-up play, intelligent movement, and a solid defensive foundation.
