Guiseley Academy have had a mixed start to the season with the first team having now played two league games and three FA Youth Cup games, writes Rachel O’Connor.
They started their season with an emphatic 9-1 win over Stocksbridge PS in the Youth Cup, in which players have to be Under-18 compared to U-19 in the league.
In this win Derren Boyle netted a hat-trick and other goals came from Will Buttle, Dan Fotherby, Zac Rushworth, Nat Dyer, Emre Can and Dan Brookes.
A sobering 4-0 away defeat at Chester in the National U-19 Alliance North saw the team then hit back with another FA Youth Cup win.
This time they defeated Emley 5-2 at Nethermoor with goals from Boyle (2), Lucas Alexander, Zac Richards and Nat Dyer.
The Academy then faced UFCA, playing as Liversedge in this competition.
In what was a more then fiesty game at Nethermoor Park the visitors caught Guiseley cold and romped to a 4-0 interval lead.
Guiseley had full-back Will Buttle sent off after 42 minutes and played the remainder of the game with ten men.
The writing was on the wall when the visitors scored in the fourth minute and added further goals in the 8th, 40th and 45th minutes.
Guiseley threw on a raft of substitutes immediately after the break and they took the game to their opponents.
Derren Boyle reduced the arrears in the 48th minute and shortly after Guiseley were awarded a penalty as the game became more contentious.
After a long wait the kick was taken but Guiseley failed to convert the chance.
A bad tempered game saw two further red cards for the opposition and Guiseley took advantage of their numerical advantage with Zac Richards netting in the 101st minute.
All a little too late to make further progression in a competition that Guiseley have traditionally done well in.
It summed up Guiseley’s day when Boyle was shown a red card after the final whistle.
