Guiseley and Lancaster City played out an entertaining, but goalless, draw at the Giant Axe, writes Joe Priestley.
The Lions were not able to make the bulk of the chances they enjoyed in the first half count, despite a great deal of effort. Amir Berchil cracked a super effort from long range off the inside of the post and also sent one over from close range soon after, as Guiseley made a bright start to the game.
Jack Emmett forced a last ditch save from Brad Kelly in the Lancaster goal, and Jordan Thewlis also had chances, but nobody in yellow could get the ball into the net despite an onslaught of pressure. John Lufudu sent a deadly shot towards goal, but his effort was just wide of Lancaster goalkeeper Brad Kelly’s far post.
The Lions started the second half with the impetus that they ended the first, Tom Senior came close to his first goal for Guiseley in the 48th minute, heading just wide from a Will Longbottom corner.
However, Lancaster grew into the game and began to create deadly moves of their own. Joe Cracknell looked beaten when a 60th minute shot was fired in from Nathan Caine, but it bobbled just wide of the post.
The two sides traded blows as the half went on, Will Longbottom found himself at the end of a well-worked team move but was unable to direct his shot on target and Matty Clarke headed just over from close range for Lancaster but it seemed as if neither team would be able to convert.
As the game went into the dying stages, the hosts took control and had a flurry of chances. The best one fell to Charlie Bailey who met a sublime delivery from skipper Sam Bailey but was denied thanks to a fantastic block from Jake Lawlor.
Ultimately, neither team was able to find the all-important goal. Both sides will come away ruefully disappointed that they couldn’t convert one of those chances but a hard-earned point was a fair result. Guiseley now turn their attention to the Isuzu FA Trophy tie away at Bridlington on Saturday.
