Spectators at Guiseley High School last Sunday witnessed an extraordinary afternoon of football as Guiseley Lionesses Women FC stormed to a 17–1 victory over Myra Shay, in a match that will live long in the memory, writes Kevin Green.
From the very first whistle, the Lionesses set the tone. Barely a minute had passed before Evans calmly slotted home the opener. Just moments later, Demi Pringle added a second with a sharp finish, and by the 5th minute, Aleathia Smith had made it three.
What followed was a masterclass in attacking football. Pringle, in sensational form, tormented the visiting defence, completing her hat trick inside 20 minutes and racking up seven first-half goals. Freja Evans added another, and Guiseley went into the break with a commanding 10–0 lead.
The second half brought no relief for the visitors. Pringle struck again early on, before Heather Fisher bagged a blistering hat-trick in just eight minutes. A cheeky backheel from Pringle took her personal tally to nine, while late goals from Sophie Fowler and Evans capped off the scoring.
To their credit, Myra Shay refused to give in and were rewarded with a fine consolation goal, which drew warm applause from both sets of supporters. The final whistle brought relief for the visitors, but sheer delight for Guiseley, who celebrated a historic 17–1 triumph.
Manager Jamie Skyes praised the team’s ruthless display:
“From the first minute the girls were outstanding. We asked them to start fast, and they did exactly that. Demi was unplayable today, but it was also a fantastic team performance – the movement, the finishing, the energy, everything was spot on.”
Player of the Match, Demi Pringle, was modest despite her record-breaking nine-goal haul: “It was just one of those days where everything clicked. Credit to my teammates – they created so many chances for me. I’m proud of the goals but prouder of the team effort.”
Goal Scorers: Pringle 9, Fisher 3, Evans 3, Smith 1, Fowler 1 and Myra Shay 1.
The Lionesses now look to carry this momentum into their next fixture, with confidence sky-high after one of their most dominant performances in club history.
