Guiseley AFC Academy are back in Greater Manchester tomorrow (Wednesday) when they visit Altrincham on the back of a 4-0 win at Oldham on Monday, writes Rachel O’Connor.
The Altrincham game will be played at Cheadle Heath (SK8 2ET) with a 1pm kick-off.
Striker Zac Rushworth will be looking to add to the hat-trick he scored in a 4-0 win at Oldham. Substitute Lawrence Ford scored the other goal.
Rushworth’s hat-trick took him to eight goals for the season while Ford’s was his third. George Sebine is leading scorer with 16 while Jack Lorriman and Lucas Alexander each have 12.
This morale boosting win came after Guiseley had dominated their home game against league leaders Farsley Celtic but failed to convert their many chances.
Farsley took the points from Nethermoor with a 1-0 win with a fortuitous late penalty.
At Oldham Guiseley’s Young Lions finally got some reward for all their hard graft.
Guiseley: Spencer Booth; Lucas Alexander, Joe Taylor, Max Dickinson, Dan Fotherby; Oli Storr, Marley Spence, Zac Richards, Robbie Murray; Derren Boyle, Zac Rushworth. Subs: George Sebine (for Murray 60 mins), Emre Can (Storr 60), Lawrence Ford (Richards70).
Head of Academy Dave Currie said: “The lads had failed to take their chances in previous games. That failure to take our chances has been the story of our season. We have been better than any of the teams in the league but we have just not been clinical enough.”
The win at Oldham did not however improve their league position as a win for AFC Fylde over York City and a draw at Blyth Spartans has taken Fylde above Guiseley by one point.
Guiseley will take on AFC Fylde at Nethermoor on 9th April (2pm).
In the away game at Fylde back in October Guiseley gained an impressive 5-2 win with goals from Sebine (3), Alexander and Lorriman.
The win came after Guiseley had been 2-0 down. They then struck four goals in nine minutes to get a lead.
