Last weekend’s clash with Cleethorpes was postponed. The Lions now welcome basement club Workington to Nethermoor, who find themselves in a rich vein of form, Scott Kelly.

“(Ilkeston) wasn’t good enough. We wanted more attacking intent, and we had 20 efforts and four goals. The fourth goal was an exceptional team goal”.
Boss Ian Richards admitted the defeat to Ilkeston Town was not good enough and says he saw more of a togetherness in training, and they reaped the benefits on the pitch, with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Warrington Town last time out.
“To have Amir and Jordan back we could change it slightly in certain areas. All four subs when they came on had a real impact, so it was a real squad effort”.
‘I never give any excuses’ said Richards post-match. But the results have been inconsistent of late, largely due to several injuries, and with the likes of Amir Berchil and Jordan Thewlis returning, it felt everyone was pulling in the right direction, resulting in the resounding 4-0 victory.
Team News
The full 90 minutes for Kyle White and Elliot Owen against Warrington have given the Lions a huge boost, with Owen even getting himself on the scoresheet in that game.
The game however is likely to again come too soon for Will Longbottom, who had an operation this week to aid his recovery from injury. George Goodman recently signed on loan until the end of the season from Bradford City and could start this one after missing the last few matches through injury.

The Opposition
Saturday’s Cumbrian opponents have seen their survival chances improve greatly of late, despite them still sitting bottom of the Northern Premier League table.
Consecutive home victories over fellow strugglers Rushall and Morpeth means the Reds are unbeaten in their last five matches, with Hebburn Town the only side to beat them in their last nine league games. Their form has culminated in manager Billy Barr being nominated for the leagues Manager of the Month award for February.
Despite their recent good form, their away form this campaign is cause for concern. They have only won twice on the road all season but come into Saturday’s clash in West Yorkshire off the back of four successive away draws. Only Prescot Cables and Morpeth Town have picked up fewer points than the Reds 12 points picked up away from Borough Park. Their run in is also favourable as they look to avoid the drop, with only Hednesford and Warrington Rylands to play in the league’s current top nine.
Alex Mitchell is the Reds number one. Steve Swinglehurst and Jack Dickinson operate in defence. Loanee Dan Hooper scored the winner last time out against Rushall and he is on loan from Carlisle United. As is forward Luke Hunter, who scored the winner against Morpeth a fortnight, who is on loan from AFC Fylde. Workington’s top goalscorer is Steven Rigg, but he did not play in the recent game against Rushall. Rigg has six goals for the campaign. Also missing last week was Dave Symington, but it remains unknown if their absences are long term.
Previous Meetings
The Lions have won four of the last five meetings between the sides, which included a 1-0 victory at Borough Park back in November.
They have also incredibly won all five of the previous meetings between the sides at Nethermoor, including a 2-0 victory back in 2024 and a 4-3 success back in 2023.
Workington have only won once against Guiseley in recent times, and that was the meeting between the sides back in 2004.
