It may have felt like a long time in coming, but the 24/25 season is finally here!

The Lions host the side whom they visited on the final day of the last campaign – Workington.

Meetings in 2023/24

11/11/2023 – Guiseley 4-3 Workington (Gabriel Johnson hat trick, Aiden Walker)

27/04/2024 – Workington 2-1 Guiseley (Reece Kendall)

The Lions’ Team News

Mark Bower returns to the Guiseley dugout domestically for the second time, having previously managed the club from 2013-2016.

However, he could have a few selection headaches coming into the first game of the new season, with Lewis Whitham and Jake Wright definitely out.

Full-back Ollie Brown should be fit despite missing Saturday’s final preseason game at North Ferriby. Gabriel Johnson gained more match minutes in East Yorkshire, coming off the bench as he continues his recovery from a pre-season operation.

Some good news for Bower and Lions’ fans though. Goalkeeper Joe Cracknell, full-back Lucas Odunston, and forward Will Longbottom, both signed from Bower’s former club Bradford Park Avenue and Adriano Moke will likely make their competitive debuts for the club.

Jake Lawlor, John Lufudu, Lebrun Mbeka, Joe Ackroyd and Jordan Thewlis are no strangers to the Lions’ faithful and are all in line to make their second debuts for the club.

A look at Workington

Manager: Mark Fell
Stadium: Borough Park
Nickname: The Reds
23/24 League Position: 17th

The Cumbrians had a largely successful pre-season campaign, losing only two of their nine friendlies. They come into the game having suffered a 3-1 defeat away to Clitheroe in their final match of pre-season last Saturday.

They now have Mark Fell in the manager’s dugout, who was appointed in March with former boss Danny Grainger moving on to become assistant at Morecambe.

The former Lancaster boss has recruited defender Tom Wilkinson and attacker Jamie Allen among others this summer.

The Reds will be looking to improve on their 17th placed finish last season. The good news for them is that they have retained the services of last season’s top goalscorer David Symington, who finished with 24 goals in 23/24.
