Past Meetings
This will be the first meeting between the sides since the 2008/09 season in the NPL. Guiseley did the double that season with 4-0 home and 6-3 away victories. The Cables were relegated that season.
The Lions haven’t lost any of the last four meetings between the sides.
Last Time Out
Mickleover 0-1 Guiseley
The Lions left it late again to grab victory – this time away from home against Derby based side Mickleover.
The Lions went into the game off the back of a spirited Emirates FA Cup performance at League One Stevenage.
Although the victory was a great outcome, the game’s highlight was the return to action for midfielder Lewis Whitham, who has spent the last 20 months on the sidelines.
It was another substitute who grabbed the headlines though. John Lufudu found Jordan Thewlis who opened the scoring two minutes into stoppage time to take the points.
The late goal also means that 10 of the Lions 25 points picked up this season have been achieved in the 90th minute or later.
Post Match Reaction From The Gaffer
“I thought we deserved to win the game. The lads put in a performance without being spectacular”
Gaffer Mark Bower was modest with regards to the overall performance but felt the better side won the game.
“They have had a few tough results. They tried to catch us on the counter and play for the odd set-piece. They sat really deep and made it very difficult”
Highlighting Mickleover’s recent poor form, Bower said that he expected them to set up defensively and felt his side just needed to be more patient than usual.
“We fancy ourselves late on in games”
Going into the 75–80-minute mark, the players can step it up a gear says Bower, as he analysed why his side keep securing points late on in games.
“We have to start picking up points at home and make it a bit of a fortress. The performance has given us a great chance of getting three more (points) on Tuesday”
Whilst stating he was impressed with certain individuals, Bower appreciated his side need to pick up the wins at home, with Prescot being the club’s first visitors to Nethermoor in the league since Worksop Town on 21st September.
The Lions’ Team News
Saturday’s game saw the returns of Whitham and Thewlis, with both appearing to come through that unscathed and are available for selection for Tuesday evening. Thewlis has not featured at Nethermoor since September, but Whitham has not played on home turf since March 2023.
Jameel Ible also returned during the Stevenage game and will be available once again.
The game is likely to come too soon though for Lucas Odunston and Liam Ridehalgh, who are both recovering from minor injuries.
Jake Wright is now the club’s only major injury absentee, with Leo Farrell returning to Barnsley for treatment on a hamstring problem.
