The Lions’ pre-season preparations continue this weekend, as Leeds United’s U21s make the short trip over to Nethermoor for a 3pm kick off on Saturday, writes Lance Holden.
With the 2024/25 Pitching In NPL Premier Division season drawing ever closer, Guiseley enter the final few friendlies of pre-season with a stern test against a strong youth side from Elland Road.
So far Guiseley have picked up two wins, a 2-1 victory v League Two outfit Bradford City and 1-0 win over Avro, as well as two defeats (7-0 v Huddersfield and 1-0 v Liversedge) over the course of summer preparation, and will be hoping to make it a third win in front of a bumper home Saturday crowd, with over 900 tickets sold already.
Conditions are set to be milder in comparison to our last outing, which saw us narrowly fall to defeat away at Liversedge, where the sun baked the pitch in a traditional pre-season friendly climate.
Following the match, manager Mark Bower had this to say on pre-season overall: “We’ve had three really different tests. Bradford City, on a slick pitch, where we played some lovely stuff. Another go on a 3G pitch and we’ll be on two 3Gs for the first two games of the season, so a useful exercise. And then tonight, again, difficult conditions, a few lessons we’ll learn from that and the way we need to go about games when we’re faced with these kinds of conditions.”
Before concluding: “All in all, I’m pleased with where we’re at.”
