Guiseley make their first visit to Ilkeston Town since 2008 and will be hoping to right wrongs after a disappointing result at the weekend, writes Scott Kelly.
Previous Meetings
This is the first meeting since 2009, which was also played in the Northern Premier League and was a 1-1 draw.
Storm Babet put paid to the original game due to be played on 21st October, with Tuesday evening’s game being the rearranged fixture.
The Lions’ Form Book
Guiseley were hammered 5-1 at Macclesfield on Saturday, with the Lions looking well in the game up to half time, but three second half goals ensured Guiseley went back to Leeds empty handed. That was their second away league defeat on the bounce, and Ilkeston could overtake their opponents with victory so a positive result in Derbyshire this Tuesday is vital.
Kallan Murphy will be looking to improve on his goal tally and has scored in consecutive matches. The goals of Gabriel Johnson have catapulted the Lions up the table, and we have not lost a game in which he has scored (W7, D1).
A Look At Ilkeston Town
Ilkeston were not in the NPL last season and spent 22/23 in the Southern League Premier Division Central and finished 7th last season.
Their most known player is James Perch, who is now 38 and was released by Mansfield Town at the end of last season. He is also their club captain and grabbed his first goal for the club in Saturday’s home win against Stafford Rangers.
The Robins won that one 3-1 and they have lost four games from their last seven, only winning two of those and drawing the other.
A Look At The Lions
Andy Welsh made one change at Macclesfield, bringing in Aiden Walker for the departed Joe Stacey.
Stacey shook the Guiseley camp by moving to Alfreton Town, a club he has played for previously.
The Lions came out of the game with no injury concerns with Tom Denton gaining more valuable minutes as a second half substitute.
Welsh could name Liam Tongue in his squad after his recovery from a knee injury with the captain due to return to fitness.
Laurence Sorhaindo and Lewis Whitham will miss out through injury.
What Are They Saying?
‘We contributed to our downfall’. Those were the opening words of boss Andy Welsh in his scathing post-match interview but was pleased to see his side go 1-0 up early on.
‘Inevitably we score from a cross in the box. After that, we ended up too deep and not engaging and obviously when you come to a place like that, you are letting them just come onto you’.
He was also quizzed about the own goal, the goal which put Macclesfield 3-1 and thus, a commanding position in the game.
‘Not good enough. Simple as that’ he insisted.
‘That was us today. We didn’t react well enough to things that were happening’
