Previous Meetings

These sides met for the first time ever back in 22/23, with the away sides coming out on top. The Seasiders won at Nethermoor Park last season 3-1, whilst the Lions beat Marske 4-2 at Mount Pleasant, with current stars Jameel Ible and Lewis Whitham among the goalscorers.

The Lions’ Form Book

Guiseley got back to winning ways at Basford United on Saturday, winning 1-0 following a 2-2 draw at home to Hyde the previous weekend. Gabriel Johnson made it goal number 13 for the season with his 64th minute winner in Nottingham.

The Lions 5-1 hammering at Macclesfield is their only defeat in their last five matches and have won five of their last six on home turf. Ashton United and Whitby Town are the only sides to take three points at Nethermoor Park this season.

Marske United

Founded: 1956
Manager: Graeme Lee
Club Captain: Kieran Fenton
Stadium: Mount Pleasant
Address: Mount Pleasant Avenue, Marske-by-the-Sea, Redcar, TS11 7BW
Capacity: 2,500

Former Lions forward Adam Boyes is in double figures for the season and will hoping to add to his tally here. Boyes bagged the early goal during their 1-0 victory against Ashton United on Saturday.

Marske sit just a point above the drop zone in 18th and their results recently can only be described as inconsistent. They lost every game in the month of September before winning three and then losing three on the bounce in late October/early November. They have only played twice in December, with Saturday’s home victory against Ashton being preceded by a 3-1 defeat at Ilkeston Town.

As well as Boyes, former Lions Jorge Sikora and Donald Chimalilo also play for the club. Jason Kennedy is also on their books, once of Middlesbrough and Rochdale but Nathan Thomas, once of Hartlepool United, was recently let go by the club after four goals in 12 appearances.

The Lions

Jack Mason earned his first NPL minutes on Saturday at Basford, the winger started the game before being replaced after an hour.

Courtney Meppen-Walters missed the trip through illness, but Callum Chippendale was back on the bench after missing the Hyde game through injury.

Tom Denton got the match winning assist in his 700th career appearance at Basford and could be in line for a start against Marske.

Hull City loanee Sincere Hall will be hoping for his first appearance for the Lions, after not making it off the bench on Saturday.

What Are They Saying?

‘It was one of those games where we knew we had to come in, get our tin hats on, and get out!’

Boss Andy Welsh lamented the windy conditions on Saturday and admitted Basford having the weather conditions on their side first half made things difficult for the Lions.

‘For me it’s not a handball. Even their bench said after the game that it is not a handball’.

Referring decisions for a hot topic again post-match, and Welsh blasted the decision but was also full of praise for penalty saving hero Ollie Battersby and new goalkeeping coach Danny King.

‘We have to look at minutes of players Ollie Brown last week (against Hyde) had a tough day against Jack Redshaw. We need a squad to go and compete and we had a gameplan to utilise.

Welsh also admitted that squad rotation is key, after being asked why Leigh Whelan appeared to be filling in at right back.
