Previous Meetings

We last played Matlock during the cut short Covid-19 campaign in the Emirates FA Cup when Lebrun Mbeka and Jonathan Wafula found the net on a Tuesday night in October.

The last meeting in the league was back in April 2010 when Simon Johnson netted in a 2-1 defeat at Causeway Lane, the last clash at Nethermoor was in August 2009 when Adam Muller and James Cotterill scored in a 2-0 win.

The Lions’ Form Book

The Lions go into the game off the back of three defeats in league and cup.

Danny Ellis’ side are without a home league victory since picking up three points against Whitby Town in August.

A Look At Matlock Town

The Gladiators are ten places and four points ahead of The Lions going into the game and have just appointed former Boston manager Craig Elliot as the new man to take them forward.

He has had a quick start to life in The Gladiators hotseat with a 2-1 defeat at FC United of Manchester on Tuesday before a 4-2 home win over Warrington Rylands on Saturday.

They have just added Shaun Tuton to their squad with the striker named on the bench for Saturday’s win.

Former Lions Reece Kendall, Simon Lenighan and Jake Day could also make the trip to Nethermoor.

A Look At The Lions

Mohammad Qasim, Charlie Wood and Tom Scott will all be pushing for returns to the starting 11 after missing the Emirates FA Cup defeat on Saturday.

James Cadman scored on his home debut against Marske and Foley Nkem made his first senior appearance from the bench in Northumberland.

Danny Ellis could make successive starts and captain George Smith was back in the starting 11 on Saturday.

Jerome Greaves didn’t travel on Saturday after his hamstring injury and Andy Kellett is also likely to miss out.

What Are They Saying?

Speaking after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Blyth Assistant Manager Danny Forrest said “We knew Blyth would be a good side but we always want more from ourselves and today was one of those days without a doubt. I felt they started really brightly and we struggled to get to grips with their midfield, they have some good players in there and they forced us back. When we did finally get on the ball we didn’t have enough quality and when we were getting balls up to Jake Cassidy we didn’t have enough support around him.”

“Once we got to grips with it in the second half we came into the game, we wanted a response after asking some questions at half-time but we have fallen short which hurts. We are missing a good chunk of our players which showed a little but today but we want more from the team we put out there really.”

“For the most part I felt we limited them really but conceding just before half-time wasn’t ideal, we have to go again and pick ourselves up.”

“I think Luke Dean is doubtful, he is struggling with his ribs. We will have Tom Scott, Charlie Wood and Mohammad Qasim coming back into the fold. We will pick ourselves up, the squad might need freshening up and in the summer there was a lot of change but we have settled now. Some things are becoming more obvious to us but we are learning all the time.”

Tickets for the game with Matlock Town can be purchased at the turnstiles on the night with cash payment only or online in advance here. Don’t forget to pick up a matchday programme for just £3, it is packed full with exclusive content with what you will find inside here.
