The second fixture in our Bank Holiday Weekend double header is a trip to the North East to face Gateshead, Joe Priestley previews the game.
Following a fantastic result against Gloucester City on Saturday, the Lions must quickly look to their Bank Holiday Monday fixture with Gateshead. The Heed are unbeaten and currently sit above the Lions on goal difference. A close affair is expected with both teams having played difficult fixtures just 48 hours previous.
The Lions
Lebrun Mbeka took a knock on Saturday, however he is expected to be in contention. Jordan Thewlis and Andy Kellett missed the game against Gloucester and remain doubtful. Lewis Hey impressed in the 2-1 victory and could start. It was an impressive performance all round and you’d anticipate any changes to the XI may be fitness related after what was an end to end game at the weekend.
Gateshead
It was disappointment at the weekend for Mike Williamson’s men, they came within a whisker of picking up a win against Chester, before a 97th minute own goal saw them drop two points. Matty Jacob impressed on his debut after coming in from Hull City. Attacker Macaulay Langstaff is always difficult to play against and the Lions would do well to keep him out, Adam Campbell is also a threat as Gateshead look to add to the four goals they’ve notched in two matches.
