We’re back on the road on Saturday for our first league away game in over a month with a trip to Darlington’s Blackwell Meadows ground.
Following a disrupted midweek, The Lions are out on their travels once again. It’s a trip to the North East to play against a rather inconsistent Darlington side. With four former Lions, Darlington have notched convincing wins, entertaining draws and a few damning defeats as well. The Lions who are likely to be missing key players will have to be on their guard to stop the threat, but past results have proven it’s a winnable fixture.
The Lions
The squad has taken a battering over the last few weeks, Kaine Felix, Jamie Spencer and Jordan Thewlis are amongst the notable injury absences. However, it’s not just injury that leaves the squad so depleted, on the disciplinary front both George Cantrill and Prince Ekpolo are likely to be suspended. In more positive news Brad Wade impressed on his return debut after joining back on loan from Rochdale. Guiseley Academy’s latest star off the production line, Josh Stones signed first team forms during the week. He’s been a goal machine at academy level and will now be looking to make an impact for the first team.
Darlington
Darlington’s squad includes the talent and experience of former Guiseley centre back Danny Ellis and midfield dynamo Alex Purver. Jake Cassidy and Will Hatfield also feature. Former Newcastle United youth striker Luke Charman has eight goals to his name this season, the league’s second highest tally. Inconsistent is a fair way to describe Darlington’s campaign, this squad absolutely played Telford off the pitch a few weeks ago, but most recently lost 3-0 away at Southport. Alun Armstrong is expected to make changes having understandably been unhappy with the performance.
