We’re back on the road this Saturday for our first away game of the season, Joe Priestley previews the fixture.
Guiseley’s first away trip this season sees them travel to Curzon Ashton and make a trip that they haven’t made for some time, due to the last two curtailed seasons. Though through different circumstances, both teams are searching for their first win of the season and The Lions will be raring to go and right the wrongs of last week’s turbulent game against AFC Fylde. The numbers won’t tell you a lot this early into the season, games at the beginning of a campaign are often a big unknown and it will be up to The Lions to handle the challenge in front of them.
The Lions
Guiseley go into the game on the back of a defeat in a strange game against AFC Fylde. However, as Russ O’Neill said in his post-match review last weekend, there were positives to take. Jacob Gratton impressed on debut after coming in from Rotherham, Jordan Thewlis found the net and there was also a goal for club captain Hamza Bencherif. Andy Hollins is likely to be back in contention having made his signing from Hyde official.
Curzon Ashton
Curzon were part of the first league fixture this season to be disrupted by COVID-19. Their match against Chester had to be postponed due to a string of cases in their opponents’ camp. However, Curzon are still expected to be sharp having been put through their paces in an impromptu friendly against Chester’s rivals Wrexham in which they lost 3-1. Former Lions Jack Dyche and Harry Flowers could start for the Manchester based side who’s squad also includes non-league legend Craig Mahon.
