The Lions were eliminated from the Emirates FA Cup in a tight game at EFL League One side AFC Wimbledon and their new Plough Lane Stadium, the game may have been lost but the club left South London with their heads held high after running a team 70 places above them in the football pyramid very close.

Last time out in the league Russ O’Neill and Marcus Bignot’s men fell to a 5-1 defeat at Darlington in a game which saw 15 players missing through injury, suspension and self-isolation, it brought an end to a five game undefeated streak.

Hereford were in league action last weekend and won 1-0 at Edgar Street over Chorley but they are without a league win on the road since a midweek victory at York City’s LNER Community Stadium in late September.

The Lions are unbeaten in four league and cup games at Nethermoor and sit one point and one place behind The Bulls with a game in hand.

Russ O’Neill and Marcus Bignot were boosted by the return of many squad members at Plough Lane but could be without Jordan Thewlis and Hamza Bencherif who were both withdrawn in the second half of the contest.

Speaking after the narrow loss at AFC Wimbledon Marcus Bignot said “There is a way we want to play football and that is with high energy, high intensity and be really organised. We want to express ourselves, be as expansive as possible, build, create and be lively in the final third. The boys today ticked a lot of boxes today in terms of the elements that are needed to win football matches.”

“The boys want to after teams, at the start of the season we went with a mid block strategy but we soon learnt we needed to get them off the leash. They want to go after teams, high press and be on the front foot, it was brave to do that against League One opposition especially with us being part time and the past couple of weeks. This was a huge bench mark for us because Wimbledon can play.”

“This is the level our players aspire to, they want to full time footballers and it felt like a real football match with the away supporters who were superb for us and the whole occasion has the FA Cup about it but it showed where these players can be.”

Also Jamie Spencer spoke after the game saying “It was a fantastic experience for all the lads, these sort of days are the ones you want to play in an unbelievable ground. The second half we were oustanding we were just missing that cutting edge to get a goal.”

“I don’t think our league position reflects how we have been playing, we can push on from here and do ourselves justice.”
