21/22 Match Preview: Brackley Town

Brackley Town are the visitors to Nethermoor on Tuesday night with the prize being a place in the Emirates FA Cup first round and a trip to AFC Wimbledon’s Plough Lane home.

Tickets can be purchased on the night at the turnstiles with payment being by cash only, it is also cash payments inside the ground for programmes, food and drink and 50/50 cash draw tickets.

The two sides could not be separated at St James Park on Saturday after Lee Ndlovu put Brackley in the lead before Jake Hull’s first goal for the club sent the tie to a replay at Nethermoor Park.

It was the first time The Lions had conceded in the Emirates FA Cup this season but they reacted well to ensure a place in the first round draw on Sunday.

A win away at Colne before seeing off Blyth Spartans at Nethermoor sent The Lions to Northamptonshire whereas Brackley have knocked out Coalville Town on their own patch before a replay win over Hanley Town.

Before Saturday’s game The Saints were top of the Vanarama National League North table but were knocked off their perch by AFC Fylde who beat Gloucester City 1-0 away from the Emirates FA Cup action.

The Lions were boosted by the returns of Andy Kellett and Kaine Felix who were both named on the bench on Saturday meanwhile Luke Jackson’s loan has been extended until 16th November and Adam Haw has joined Mickleover until 15th November.

Speaking after Saturday’s away draw Marcus Bignot said “I don’t think we started particularly well and it was a very disappointing goal to concede but we grew into the game but we had a lot of possession and looked a threat in the first half. We were worthy of coming in level at half time and we wanted to kick on from there but we lost our way a little bit but overall we have to remember Brackley are sitting top of the table and are in fine form and we are building momentum now, that’s three unbeaten. We will be in a confident, positive mood going into Tuesday but so will they.”

Speaking about the recent form Bignot said “A change of system has helped us, it allows us to get our influential players out on the pitch and a system that suits them. Russ leads what is required to play at this level and we are asking them to be a possession based team but to not detract away from the intensity off it. Today I felt that in and out of possession there wasn’t a continued passage of who we were and how we play so that is something we will address.”

“We had to face a lot of direct play back to front and they have a lot of physical players in their front line but we came through and it is about enforcing our style of play on a very good Brackley side and a times we did.

“We are coming off the pitch disappointed but on reflection going back up north we are still in the hat and we have an opportunity. Is it an advantage? I don’t know but Brackley have to do the travel now and midweek it is never easy. A lot of lessons have been learnt today and if we take that into the game on Tuesday we will be a different proposition and hopefully cause them some more problems.”

Andy Kellett was introduced as a second half substitute for his second appearance of the season after his return from injury “It has been a long process but I am just glad to be back on the pitch and get 20 minutes in the tank today.”

“The league doesn’t lie and they are top for a reason, it was always going to be a tough game coming here and we had to play a different way today against a strong side and we are a young team so it is nice to be able to compete in different ways. The best teams can win numerous ways and the more ways we can win the better that is going to be for us.”

Speaking abouth is injury Kellett said “My knee has done alright today so I am hoping that’s done now, in pre-season we didn’t really know what the injury was and I wasn’t out long enough for it to repair after coming back too soon.”

Looking ahead to Tuesday night the midfielder can’t wait to make his competitive debut at Nethermoor infront of supporters “I am looking forward to Tuesday especially with it being at home as I haven’t played in front of our fans yet other than in pre-season so it will be great to be back involved again and get in front of the fans”

Tickets can be purchased on the night at the turnstiles with payment being by cash only.
