Lions fan Joe Priestley previews Saturday’s trip to FC United of Manchester as we hunt for a place in the Emirates FA Cup first round.
On the road: FC United Of Manchester
Saturday 24th Of October – 3PM Kick Off
Broadhurst Park, Moston, Manchester M40 0FJ
An Emirates FA Cup fixture against an in form opposition looking to cause an upset in front of one of non-league’s most passionate fan bases awaits The Lions this Saturday, as Guiseley travel to Broadhurst Park. The next round beckons and The Lions have had no trouble on their Emirates FA Cup adventure so far, but FC United will prove a different beast. Will The Lions succumb to a second Emirates FA Cup banana skin in two years, or can Guiseley hold firm on the road?
The Lions
It was a disappointing result last time out for The Lions who lost to a very tough Hereford side who edged it on the day, debatable penalty aside. Nathan Newall impressed fans in his first outing of the campaign and could push for a start. Kaine Felix is looking to add to his early season goal-haul and Jonathan Wafula will be hoping to score in back to back Emirates FA Cup games. Brad Wade was unlucky to concede his first goal of the campaign, but will face an even tougher challenge to keep a clean sheet against a side that have scored eight goals in two cup matches. Lebrun Mbeka has been the man in form in cup action, having played a prominent role against both Atherton and Matlock.
FC United Of Manchester
Former Guiseley loanee Michael Fowler is on the books at United and has enjoyed a bright start to life in Moston. He’s replaced rising star Tunde Owolabi who moved to Hamilton in the Scottish Premier League after a 35 goal haul. Paul Ennis, another former Lion, is a man to watch, his midfield exploits are a big part of what makes Neil Reynolds’ team successful. They’re unbeaten in league competition, having drawn with Lancaster City last time out and are no strangers to possession football, just like Guiseley. Dan Cockerline found himself on the end of a spectacular team goal, the lions would do well to control the game.
