Lions fan Joe Priestley looks ahead to our trip to Boston United as The Lions look to return to winning ways on the road.
On the road: Boston United F.C.
Tuesday 27th October – 7:45pm Kick-Off
The Northolme, Gainsborough DN21 2QW
The Lions are on the road once again as they look to build on a turbulent start to the season. It’s Lions vs Pilgrims as we travel to 5th placed Boston United at their temporary home in Gainsborough. Historical results against the Lincolnshire outfit are very mixed but have certainly been more negative in recent years, however league games on the road have recently become a Guiseley speciality. The Lions are taking one of their toughest tests of the season and time will tell to see if they can pass it.
The Lions
Five games into their competitive campaign, the Lions have netted 11 goals. Blyth were put to the sword on the opening day in a convincing 4-0 victory, Atherton were brushed aside in the Emirates FA Cup by the same margin and a physical Matlock side were also dispatched. It’s not been perfect for the Lions and they’ve lost their last two games, a disappointing home defeat to Hereford and a cup exit away to Pitching In Northern Premier League outfit FC United Of Manchester will have certainly knocked the Lions’ confidence. Jonathan Wafula is in fine goal scoring form and new man Kian Harratt could prove integral in getting Guiseley back to winning ways. Kaine Felix is a doubt, having picked up a knock against Hereford, but young talent Nathan Newall could push for a start.
Boston United
Former Guiseley captain Scott Garner will likely line up for Boston, he scored in their opening night dispatching of an out of form Leamington side and was named in the Non League Paper’s most recent team of the week. The Pilgrims are plying their trade outside of Boston for the time being, as the finishing touches are put on the Boston Community Stadium. Former York striker Jordan Burrow could cause problems for the Lions’ defence, in his time with the Minstermen he found the net against the lions on more than one occasion. The Pilgrims held firm to win 3-2 against Telford at the weekend, the third was scored by none other than Scott Garner who along with talented forward Jordan Thewlis, have provided the bulk of Boston’s goals thus far. Manager Craig Elliott has put a lot of effort into improving Boston’s attack for the new campaign and there’s plenty for The Lions to deal with.
