17/18 Friendly Preview: Parkgate

Our third pre-season friendly fixture sees us travel to Parkgate on Saturday with kick-off at 3pm.

Admission is just £4 for adults and £2 for concessions.

The Roundwood Sports Pavillion saw a visit from the Lions last season when we ran out 3-0 with a brace from Adam Boyes before Will Hatfield sealed the win.

The Steelmen play in the North Counties East Premier division and have already hosted Rotherham and Harrogate Town in preparation for the new season.

Speaking after the Barnsley friendly Adam Lockwood said “We would like to thank Barnsley for coming down and hope it was beneficial for them as it was for us.”

“I’d like to build relationships with local clubs if we can help each other in any way in preparation and throughout the season.”

He has been impressed with the levels of performances from his squads used in the matches so far “I asked the guys to work hard to express themselves and get the fitness in and try to develop our play for the start of the season, I saw some very pleasing stuff including some great goals from both sides.”

“There has been a lot of impressive performances in all areas, it is about every player being in the best possible shape to be ready for the season. It’s great to see some good performances and people playing with smiles on their faces.”

Adam also hopes fans have noticed the calibre of players who are currently on trial with the club “People have seen the quality we have brought in in the trialists who are trying to earn contracts.”

The manager also said his teams for Saturday’s trip to Parkgate and Tuesday’s visit of Bradford City are all but selected “We have structured it from the moment I planned pre-season, it is about getting minutes under the belt. My teams for Parkgate and Bradford City are more or less picked, it is about creating partnerships and getting the patterns of play into our game as well as the fitness. Maybe people will play a little bit longer on Saturday and vice-versa.”

The postcode for Parkgate’s ground is S62 6LA and there’s some directions below from Nethermoor Park.
