Boston Stumped by Kev’s Double

Guiseley returned to BSN action at Boston today to resume their quest for promotion to the Blue Square Bet Premier.

And after going behind, a brace from Kevin Holsgrove plus a Wayne Brooksby effort gave the Lions  a deserved 3-1 win to leave them in second place, three points behind leaders Brackley with a game in hand.

The home side went ahead against the run of play on 28 minutes before the Lions lost defender Danny Ellis with a head injury, but the visitors were back on terms two minutes before the break when a route one clearance from Steve Drench was collected by Brooksby, who outpaced the home defence before chipping the keeper.

Boston nearly had a second as the half came to an end when they hit the post, but three minutes after the restart Holsgrove took advantage of indecision between the home ‘keeper and a defender to slot home, and he sealed the victory when an Andy Holdsworth free kick evaded everyone for the big striker to stroke home from the corner of the six-yard box.

Team – Drench, Holdsworth, Meynell, Rea, Ellis (Pearson, 35), Bower (Captain), Wilson, D Boshell, Holsgrove (Clarke, 85), Walshaw (N Boshell, 72), Brooksby. Unused Subs: Dale, Giles.
