10-man Lions exit FA Trophy

Guiseley’s FA Trophy campaign came to an end at Nethermoor on Tuesday as they fell to a 3-0 defeat against fellow Vanarama National League side Dover Athletic.

Amid a slow start from the Lions, the game turned midway through the first half as Stefan Payne gave the visitors the lead following a lofted ball over the top.

Within minutes, Will Hatfield was then harshly dismissed for a strong challenge on Ricky Modeste, leaving Mark Bower’s side facing an uphill task.

After a poor first half, Bower’s men were better after the break but failed to ask questions of a resolute Dover back line, with Nicky Deverdics’ angled finish ending the hosts’ Wembley ambitions.

An uncharacteristic error from Steven Drench allowed Payne to complete the scoring with an open goal late on, leaving the Lions to focus on their league survival bid, which continues at Altrincham on Saturday.
