Lions slip up at Solihull

Guiseley went down 2-0 to Solihull Moors at Damson Park yesterday, thanks to two second-half goals for the hosts.

The Lions will have been in confident mood after their midweek FA Cup win over Colwyn Bay and started brightly with Wayne Brooksby testing the Moors goalkeeper after five minutes.

Kevin Holsgrove made his full debut

It was to set the tone for the remainder of the first half with Danny Boshell, Gavin Rothery and James Walshaw all in with a chance of opening the scoring but to no avail.

The sides went in goalless at the break but it took only four minutes for Jay Denny to smash home after a poor attempted clearance from the visitors.

Twelve minutes later things got worse for Steve Kittrick and his side when Tom Kemp headed in after a long throw.

A triple change from Kittrick produced little reward and although Rothery and Josh Wilson went close before the end, it still represents a missed chance for the Lions, especially with Chester FC winning and Brackley Town and FC Halifax both losing.

Next up for Guiseley is the visit of Buxton in the FA Cup on Saturday, with a 1st round place the prize for the winners.
