Funding towards new stand approved

The Football Stadium Improvement Fund have confirmed that the club has been awarded  a grant of £56,000 towards the cost  of building a new stand.

The stand has to be in place by the end of March and it will provide an additional 200 covered seats to meet the eligibility requirements of promotion to the Blue Square Bet Premier. Construction work on the £122,000 stand is due to start on February 20th and it will enable the club to meet the deadline imposed by the Football Conference. A temporary 200-seat stand was installed last season to allow the club to feature in the promotion play-offs, but a change in the rules this season means that all clubs have to have permanent covered seating.

Former chairman Phil Rogerson, who submitted the funding application, said: “This is great news for the club and means that we can meet the deadline set down by the Conference. We had to submit our application by January 25th so we are thrilled to have had such a speedy response.”

The new stand will be sited next to the main stand towards the Railway End of the Nethermoor ground and will be of a similar design to the existing main stand. It is the first of a raft of  ground improvements that will need to be undertaken in the summer to meet the exacting requirements of the Blue Square Bet Premier League should the Lions realise their promotion ambitions this season.
