The first of the Guiseley AFC Academy trials took place last Wednesday in partnership with Specialist Sports College Carr Manor High School. We had over 30 trialists attend, some of them travelling significant distances and most of them showing real promise.
This response means that the club will definitely be making an application to run a team in the Football Conference Youth Alliance next season. Whilst there are some details to sort out in terms of facilities it is likely that the team will play at Carr Manor High School on Wednesday afternoons and will be overseen by Teacher and Academy Coach Dave Currie, and Guiseley AFC Coach Stuart Gray.
Playing their card right: from L-R Carr Manor: David Currie (Teacher and Academy Lead), Simon Flowers (School Principal)
GAFC: Phil Rogerson (Finance Director), Stuart Gray (Coach) and Adrian Towers (CEO)
Students will be given the opportunity to study for a BTech Level 3 award in Sport whist receiving quality coaching and playing football in a national league at a really competitive level.
Further trials will take place, probably in early March, and further details and contact details can be found on Carr Manor’s web site www.carrmanorhigh.co.uk.
